I have, over the years, discussed most if not all the spots FrankieBob put in his post. Allow me to focus in on what I regard as salient points, especially for those new to the sport. Be aware that Frank goes back to, like, the beginning. He learned to sail on stuff deemed too difficult to use today; was a high-wind sailor in the heyday (those…[Read more]

Gosh, PharmaBob was windsurfing on an inflatable SUP???
I thought it was all kiting and windsurfing was in the rear-view-mirror!
Interesting review. I always wanted to sail a tandem (but not in the front position!!).

Yeah Eric,
That is a good idea. I could add a “further afield” page for sites.
Lesson wise I would try to connect with the Cayuga Windsurfing Club, or CDGA Sailboard. They have the right gear and can answering rigging questions of your own gear as well.

Great information Bob!
As you’re aware I am near a return to the water from surgery and this sounds totally doable for all members of my family as I get going again.
This gear is all at CDGA Sailboard and available for rent.
Thanks for the post.
Cool cool cool!!!

Heck, if they’re gonna get tossed I think I can find a good home for them with my parents to replace an old tie-on style Mistral boom. What’s the adjustment length of each?

John C. and myself put some Duotone and Fanatic gear to the test on yesterday’s light wind at Kershaw East launch at Canandaigua yesterday, where the SW wind (meter not terribly accurate on a SW) cycled 8-12 most of the day, with an upper teen bump late in the afternoon.
First up was the Duotone Drifter Stopper and Mast Base strap-on accessory…[Read more]

Doug, the info from Frank is a great resource. Would it be possible to add it to the Rochester Windsport website so it remains accessible? Thanks for sharing!

The below was shared previously by long time Oswego area windsurfer Frank G. I couldn’t view it for some reason although the forum says it should be there. It is a resource we are lucky for. Reading what he says below, we are also lucky to still consider Frankiebob a windsurfing buddy.
Hope to see ya out there Frank.

Tom and Richard, there are always wings out when the wind blows. It be good to come to one of the sites and talk directly to the guys. I windsurf foil and don’t wing but have tried it.
Four major local sites that the Rochester wingers and other sailors sail are: WNW to NE winds, Durand Beach and Montana Beach (Seabreeze Pier at Irondeqouit…[Read more]

Does anyone think it would still be worth trying a SlingWing Classic v1, I can get one for $335 but don’t want to buy it if it is really outdated…

I would love to just get to see and feel some of the wing options ifg anyone is out.

I ordered mine from Mackite out of Michigan. I got the new Naish wing which was out of stock on Naish’s website. You are right, stock is low. Board and foil are delayed, so wont get to use it on anything but a SUP until the fall.
