A good time was had by all at the 1st annual Seneca Surf Bash!

I was secretly hoping the turnout from our Finger Lakes region would have been more so that we could show our Rochester brethren the vastness of our numbers. Turned out the greatest number of attendees were Rochester windsurfers! A big thank you to all the Roch wind folks who made the drive and helped make our first bash a success. I even got to meet some folks I  had never met before. RXBob was a key organizer in the bash for sure and Doug provided the moral boost we needed. Freaky G Jeff was the recipient of our first Duke award (surfer made from Seneca drift wood). He was chosen for his seasoned knowledge and dedication to riding the Finger Lakes in any condition over many years. We hope to have another next year! Pray for wind.

      Good times Brad and Bob!

The event was at great location with great eats, good suds and other refreshments, and even peanuts.  You guys had good vision to make this happen.

Bob’s secret secret family recipe Italian Sausage, hots and hams were delicious.  And a keg of beer to boot.  I may have to concede the eats were better at the Surf Bash than at the HIHO.

How cool that Geoff won the “Duke of Nuke ” award.  Well deserved on his part, and a great choice by the hosts.  He’s right in line with the tradition of dedicated watermen (and a woman here and there) we have in our area (and that dedication can be tested my mother nature!) like Lynn Davis who won the RWS Waterman award two years ago.

It’s true, the windsurfers did show out in force, but I think that may be a testament to what kid of people those guys are as opposed to sport specific.  Joe rode his bike there for heaven sake……from the chamber….’cause everybody knows Joe likes “launching”from the chamber…..even if it’s on a bike.

I’m hopeful that the larger group of kite and windsurfing enthusiasts who were not able to attend, end up hearing how cool this first surf bash was.  Windsurfers and Kiters from the southern Fingers would be cool to meet up with.  It sounds like Seneca Surf Bash part demux might happen on a different weekend next year….here’s hoping that will help more folks be able to attend.

We played some corn hole, threw a disc around…a couple SUP’s were available as well as a long board skateboard or two.  Even a dicey windsurfer launch from the knee deep quagmire at the northern end.

Everybody laughed at somebody else’s expense, we shook hands, shared a refreshment of two and then went our separate ways to wait for wind.

Oh, and the recuperating Skymongrel Scotty Rowe kissed Brad’s old wetsuit in hopes of breaking this horrid windless weather pattern.

Thanks again Brad and Bob.  See you on the water

Many thanks to Brad and PharmaBob for a great time and for their kindness in honoring me…I can think of a lot of guys (including Brad, Bob and Doug) who’ve done a whole lot for the Rochester Windsport community.

Thanks for a great party, good sausage, great brews and a fun time for all.

      Here’s hoping for 5.0…

A great time with some great watermen at a great venue. Next year we are considering moving the event to coincide with the “I Love My Park Day” volunteer day that NYS Parks and Recreation typically schedules the first or second Saturday in May. Plans include reserving Shelter #1 which is right between the board and kite launch areas so we can session, eat and drink after giving a few hours of volunteer time in stewardship of the Seneca venue. See you on the water!
