Yes, you too can make your very own kite line camera mount.  All you need is some garden hose, an old cutting board, and a few pieces of hardwood.  Oh, and a few zip ties.  Here is a pic of the mount I made last weekend, with the GoPro attached:

Kite line camera mount (ghetto edition)

The wooden dowel was cut from an old drumstick, and is used as a jamb cleat on the starboard centerline to stop the rig from sliding all the way down to the yolk.  The port centerline is unconstrained because that it the flagging line and I want it to slide through if I need to pull the trigger.  I put the camera on the inside to protect it and to keep the center of mass reasonably balanced.  I intentionally made the center of mass a little low so the camera would tend to stay upright (at least on starboard tack — it inverts on port so you have to flip the video on port reaches).

Here is a link to the first test video, showing a few idiots at Woodlawn last Sunday getting hailed on.

Now I just need the weather to get warm so the battery will last a little longer!

      Doug,

That is awesome!!!  That looks like a Brad M. prototype to me, a couple generations/versions from now and you’ll be thinking about taking that thing to market.  Very MacGyver…did I see a piece of chewing gum in there?

Looks like you chose a pretty good placement on your lines (if you had a choice) to show you, and the water/waves around you.

I loved the effect of actively tilting/rotating the video as you carved from one tack to another instead of splicing the “flipped” video in with an effect.

You should bring that thing to the Surf Bash to show off.
