Seems that more than one pic in the edit makes the post go away.

Hi Mark,
I’m sorry you had issues with posting a photo or links. I had some updating that had to be done. Hopefully it solves the problem and you can post a picture. Try to edit (I don’t think you can after creation the post) to reply, or start another post about it and I can delete this one.
Your post sounds intriguing! Hopefully the boa…[Read more]

Hey guys, just want to check if anyone is interested in taking this home before I send it off to the dumpster. Board is roughly 56cm wide and 274cm long, I believe it’s 90L volume, and has a Tuttle Fin box. It doesn’t have a normal mast track, but a two-bolt mast plate can be attached with 1/4-20 screws. The rail just ahead…[Read more]

Oh WOW, 7cm on the sides and 10cm in the center is really small. Most stock boards from Fanatic and Starboard come with 9-10cm on the sides and 14-15cm in the center. Even the kids boards are 9cm side and 14cm center. Yeah, you need bigger fins. Personally, I’ve found that stock fins from Fanatic and Starboard are very good quality and correct…[Read more]

I realize I’m a little late to the party here, but from Rochester, I see Kershaw at the N end of Cdga as the most practical option for South winds (can have a fair bit of W in it before it gets gusty). As Geoff says, nice and shallow quite a ways out to practice beach starts, and it’s fairly trivial to make E/W tacks all the way to the shoreline…[Read more]

Answer to the Polestar question, which I’d overlooked…
Drove it at an Audi event at the Glen, with instructor. Learned a lot in a couple of days. Went from feeling like I was the LOL in the center of the freeway 30 MPH slower (more) than the rest of the traffic, to passing most of the cars in my novice group.
The instructor thought the…[Read more]

Hi Jordan,
Was at a conference in Harrisburg the last 3 days. Figures,…a S wind and I can’t bet there.
I would say it depends on your skill level and what you’re looking for. Canandaigua will be flatter water, a good ways out (50-100 yds) it’s not deep so helpful if you’re working on moves and likely to fall a lot. Seneca will be more of a…[Read more]

I can’t recall exactly right now, but the quad fins that came with the board are like 7s on the sides and 10s in the center. Way too small for a 180 lb guy. I have bigger ones now, but haven’t had the opportunity to try them.
I get the riding technique, learned that 20 years ago now in Andy Brandt freestyle clinics in Bonaire. That makes up a…[Read more]

Hi all, what are best local spots for a south wind like we have coming this weekend? Canandaigua? I was considering driving to Buffalo but hoping for suggestions closer to Webster

Yeah, Lake Erie is a very special place. We’re very lucky to live here. I usually get less than half the total sessions it delivers, but in a typical average year it delivers 175 sessions on 5.0m sail and 95 liter board with air temps over 40 degrees.
I personally think deep foot straps are safer because my foot slides out easier than tight foot…[Read more]

This conversation is perfect. I was hoping Eric may chime in. Joe Herbert also has experience riding a quad.

Interesting. This is pretty much what I’d figured and deduced. Pretty much extension of what I’d have said from my single-fin experience. Didn’t really get to wave riding, but I expect the trade-off is “turniness / slashiness” -vs- ability to get vertical on the wave face with sufficient speed to get good off-the-lips and spraying top…[Read more]

Couple years back I tested a Goya quad in Lake Erie waves 30-35mph wind for 3 sessions to decide if it was the right board for what I’m doing. Ultimately it was not the right board for what I’m doing, but I found the setup very similar to my thruster boards. Footstraps and mast base forward for early planing, or rearward for speed and tighter…[Read more]
