I knew that windsurf foiling had the potential to open up new opportunities and this session today was a real eye opener.

It was cool today with temperatures around 50 Degrees and winds variable 13-19 mph out of the NE. After and amusing meeting with a gentleman coming out of the restrooms with a fishing pole in hand and me asking how the fishing was, and he of course not seeing the humor at first until I suggested he had the wrong bait, I suited up and proceeded to the water.

The water was quite flat and from a distance I could see real nice wind on the water just below the Stoney Point Bluff.  The high water allowed me to launch right at the docks without any problem. I discovered that to get to the best flow some aggressive pinching was in order to head toward Mayer’s Marina docks and into what felt like some venturi action by the bluff shoreline to the south and Mayer’s to the north. The winds picked up nicely and I had some awesome rides on foil sailing from shore to shore. It wasn’t always steady as the winds do tumble in from the lake and adjacent shoreline but it wasn’t such a bad thing to come off foil for a bit, take a rest and watch for the puffs to stir up the water and jump up onto foil again.

So back and forth I went, coming in a couple times to re-tension my rig for the increasing winds and staying mostly dry in the cool air. These conditions will only be available for a short time until the weeds take hold and the water levels return to normal. Fortunately when its windy the boat traffic will probably be light, but a nice place to windsurf foil with restrooms to change in and summer eateries to quench a thirst or fill a belly after a stoked session!
